Cairn Christian Church
Cairn Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is a congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). We have been Open + Affirming since 1997 and a certified Green Chalice congregation since 2018.
We are a place of progressive Christian faith where questions are not just okay, but are encouraged. We lean into the mystery of God while serving as Christ calls us to. We deeply value diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Cairn Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) began as First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Boulder around 1875 when it was founded by J.H. McCullough. The church has called several different buildings homes, including the one pictured here, which was built across from the University of Colorado in Boulder. The church then moved to its current building in Lafayette, where the name was changed to reflect this new chapter.
About our name
A cairn is a stack of rocks built at the side of a pathway. When we see a cairn, we are reminded that no matter where we are on our path, that we are not alone on the journey. Others have come before us to mark the way and more will follow. We journey together on this path.
About our Denomination
We are a movement of more than 3,000 congregations in the United States and Canada. We are a movement of wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one Body of Christ, we welcome all to God's table as God has welcomed us.

Our Mission
We choose to practice radical inclusion, and to celebrate and affirm the gifts and leadership of all people. We advocate with those who have been harmed by systems of power, especially those who have been excluded from the Church or Church leadership. We listen deeply and care for all who have been marginalized due to their gender identity or expression, sexuality, culture, race, socioeconomic or familial status, age, or ability. We recognize our interconnectedness with each other and creation and seek to foster a community where each person can journey authentically and wholeheartedly.

Green Chalice
We are a Certified Green Chalice Congregation. We covenant to worship God with all creation, study and engage in climate solutions. We repent for the harm we have inflicted on the earth.
